The Recirculating Aquaculture Salmon Network (RAS-N) is funded by a $1.2 million grant awarded from the National Sea Grant Office, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), to the partnering institutes and private sector entities.

The RAS-N consortium is comprised of biologists, engineers and experts in sustainable, land-based aquaculture systems that re-use the tank water, remediate waste and minimize environmental impacts, as well as experts in all aspects of salmon biology (genetics, reproduction, nutrition, growth and health management). The consortium also brings together personnel with critical knowledge and skills needed by the emerging U.S. salmon RAS industry to be successful, such as multi-level education, career and workforce development, industry extension, economic analyses and business development.

Together, the private and public sector have invested more than $2 billion into land-based salmon aquaculture, and its technologies and knowledge base are rapidly advancing.  Our partners and collaborators represent a broad approach in nurturing and supporting sustainable, land-based RAS Atlantic salmon production in the U.S.

With RAS-N, we have the critical mass of experience, knowledge and resources necessary to enhance the industry, resolve obstacles and usher in a new generation of the sustainable practices for U.S. land-based salmon production.
